Welcome to Prairie Traditions

Building traditions through education.

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! Let me introduce myself…

I am a ranch wife of 19 years. A homeschool mom who has been homeschooling my three kids for their entire education. I am a frugal homemaker, cook, and academic. I hope to share my experiences and tips with you to encourage you to build Christ’s Kingdom.

Why did I name my blog Prairie Traditions? I’ll take that in two parts:

We live on the prairie in Colorado. And I love the prairie with all my heart. I’ve lived on it my entire life and can’t imagine living anywhere else (unless it’s in a cottage in the Cotswolds, if we’re being honest!) I think the prairie is underrated because it’s not being “scenic”, but I believe people just don’t know how to look at it. If you take in the whole picture: the sea of grass, the massive sky with thunderheads building in the distance, the sagebrush breaking up the green carpet of buffalo grass, with cattle dotting the horizon… it’s breathtaking. And I will die on that hill. I hope to help you learn to appreciate it too.

I believe that traditions have been put aside in our post-modern culture as being old-fashioned and unimportant. But as I’ve learned in recent years that we need tradition to remember who we are and to remember where we are going. We need to remember who came before us and we need to remember what they were building. And I hope as we raise our children that my husband and I can keep old traditions alive and build new traditions that they will keep with their children. I will be sharing old and new traditions with you all on this journey.

My hope for this blog is that you will be encouraged to love the life God has given you and that you will cultivate it to become even more beautiful. I will be sharing my tips on schooling with multiple ages, ways that have worked to schedule my days to not feel overwhelming, recipes that my family loves, traditions we are building, how we juggle athletics with our homeschool lifestyle, along with the occasional snapshot of ranch life.

Thank you for being here. Check back in soon!
